They have the merit of dictionary-like definitions for key words (like body, flesh, and outward man) side-by-side with a survey of how two thousand years of Christian thought-leaders viewed those subjects. Visual-minded individuals may want to look elsewhere, however, as diagrams and visual aids are used sparingly throughout and large walls of text are the norm in describing intricate details. Nothing you can't learn for free. The melding of rope with skin with hair and various other props, all captured in beautifully toned prints make this one of the most exciting books ever done in this genre. It felt rushed and the story progression was too fast. The photographs and occasional drawings are large and of high quality, providing a valuable complement to the text.
